Self Catering in Somerset

Welcome to Orchard Farm Cottages, Self Catering in Somerset. Come and stay at Orchard Farm in our fully equipped and comfortably furnished self-catering Orchard Farm Cottages. We have been awarded three stars by ‘Visit England’ and provide excellent value for money.

Owls:
Owls Cottage is the perfect choice for families. This cottage has a main bedroom with a double bed, plus a second bedroom with bunk beds, which are ideal for two children. We can provide a travel cot and highchair should you need one, or a fold-up bed in the lounge for an extra person. But don’t worry if it’s adults who will be using the bunk beds – they are the size of a standard single bed and are fine for adults to use too.

The cottage is all on one level, with just one low step inside the front door, making it easily accessible. Like Bird’s Nest, Owls has an open-plan living area, with a kitchen leading off from this. Click here to see a floor plan of the cottage.

The lounge has a country cottage feel, with the original stone walls and beams, and an electric ‘woodburner’ stove to add a warm glow on chilly winter evenings. You will find lots of brochures in the lounge so you can plan your next day’s activities. There’s so much to do in the area that we have many repeat visitors returning to do all the things they didn’t manage on their first trip (and because they like our cottages too!)

Facilities: The kitchen is equipped with electric cooker, microwave, fridge with small freezer compartment and coffee machine. A television with Freeview and built-in DVD is provided in the lounge. Owls has a bathroom with bath/shower and a separate toilet. Programmable built-in electric panel heaters in each room and double-glazing throughout ensure that the cottage is warm and cozy, but the thick walls keep it nice and cool in summer. All bed linen and towels are provided and beds are made up ready for your arrival. A washing machine and tumble drier are available at the farmhouse.

Lots of off-road parking and a garden area provide space for family activities, including enough room for kids to let off steam after those long car journeys. Garden tables and chairs are provided, and barbeque facilities are available to make the most of warm summer evenings.

Birds Nest:
Birds Nest is the perfect choice for two couples. Although our two cottages are the same size and have a similar layout, Bird’s Nest Cottage has been designed with the less-mobile in mind. There are no steps, everything is on one level and the doors are wide enough to allow for wheelchair use, but of course there is no reason why anyone shouldn’t find the cottage pleasant to stay in. In this cottage both bedrooms have double beds, making it ideal for two couples. We can also offer you a fold-up bed in the lounge if you need one. If you have children, perhaps Owls Cottage might be more suitable.

Like Owls, Bird’s Nest has an open-plan living area, with a kitchen leading off from this. Click here to see a floor plan for the cottages. Throughout the cottage you will see the original beams, a reminder of its humble origins. An electric ‘woodburner’ stove in the lounge adds a warm glow on chilly winter evenings and you will find lots of brochures so you can plan your next day’s activities.

Facilities: The kitchen is equipped with electric cooker, microwave, fridge with small freezer compartment and coffee machine. Enjoy cooking some delicious Somerset produce – our guest information folder tells you where to find it! A television with Freeview and built-in DVD is provided in the lounge. The bathroom has a combined bath/shower and is spacious enough for wheelchair access to bath and toilet, although please note that the shower is not a walk-in shower. Both cottages are heated by programmable built-in electric panel heaters in each room and double-glazing throughout ensures that the cottages are warm and cozy, but the thick walls keep them nice and cool in summer. All bed linen and towels are provided and beds are made up ready for your arrival. A washing machine and tumble drier are available for guests at the farmhouse just 50 m away.

Birds Nest cottage has a small secluded garden and there is ample space for parking right outside the cottage. Garden tables and chairs are provided, and barbeque facilities are available to make the most of warm summer evenings.

Guests enjoy watching great-spotted woodpeckers feeding on the nut feeders opposite the cottage. If you enjoy nature, visit our comfortable bird hide at our wetland nature reserve, a pleasant 15 minutes walk from the cottages.

There’s so much to do in the area that we have many repeat visitors returning to do all the things they didn’t manage on their first trip (and because they like our cottages too!)

Top on the list of favourites for families is Longleat. With its safari park, stately home and numerous activities for children, it has something for all the family. We especially like the maze – it’s a great challenge to find your way to the viewing tower at the centre and then find your way out again! Go to Cheddar to explore the Caves and try Cheddar cheese made in the town, or visit the witch at Wookey Hole.

The Fleet Air Arm museum at Yeovilton is another favourite, with a visit to the simulated aircraft carrier not to be missed. The Yeovilton Air Day in June is a highlight in their calendar. A short drive from the cottages is the Haynes Motor museum where you can find your dream car, or if you happen to be here at the right time, go for a ride in it!

Our cottages are ideal for those interested in exploring National Trust properties with several ‘house and garden highlights’ nearby, including Montacute House, Lytes Cary, Tintinhull House, Stourhead and Barrington Court. The gardens at Stourhead are stunning, especially when the rhododendrons are out between late April and June.
