Bed & Breakfast in Kersey

Welcome to Old Drift House, Bed & Breakfast in Kersey. Old Drift House is a delightfully maintained home dating back to the 15th century when Henry V may have been on the throne and before Richard 111 sent the Princes to the Tower.

Built in the height of the wool trade Old Drift House was originally a single storey hall house and, with the exception of the kitchen, was replaced by another timber construction some time in the 1500’s. A century later additional accommodation was added to each end of the central hall and finally the first floor was added about 200 years ago.

Old Drift House was tastefully restored by Phil Darby in 1974 and it’s thanks to Phil and his wife Peggy, that the enchanting house has retained many of its charming characteristics including the magnificent thatched roof and lead-light windows. The restoration unveiled beams throughout, a 16th century bread over, Inglenook fireplaces and possibly the oldest surviving wattle and dorb chimney in the country.

All these features combine to create a warm, homely atmosphere in a property dating back to a bygone era.

Old as the house might be the accommodation is tastefully modern and has been carefully upgraded by Euan and Jill Black, to 5 Star Gold standard and has won Best Suffolk Self Catering Establishment for 2 years running. Attention to detail is exceptional and they are glad to offer the opportunity for others to experience the peace and tranquillity that this house has brought to their family for decades.
