Welcome to Broadgate House Bed & Breakfast, Bed & Breakfast in Cumbria. Broadgate House Bed & Breakfast is a traditional Georgian house, built in 1819 with stunning views across the Duddon Estuary; landscape immortalised in Wordsworth’s poetry. The sole occupants of Broadgate for almost 200 years have been the Lewthwaite family and following an extensive but sympathetic redecoration in 2000, this splendid villa remains a late Georgian gem.
Upstairs, the spacious bedrooms are each unique. we can offer two double bedrooms and two large single bedrooms. Decorated with antique furniture, vibrant fabrics, period wall coverings and retaining the original fireplaces they offer our guests a wonderful space in which to relax in comfort at the end of the day.
All our bathrooms are separate from the bedrooms and have been designed to meet the requirements of modern living while retaining the traditions of the past. Free standing baths and throne loos give a nod to bygone times and ensure the magic of Broadgate continues in to even the “smallest” room in the house. As bathrooms are shared it is our policy to ensure that the sharing is between guests who are members of the same party. We do not expect guests from different parties to share bathroom facilities and will not take on reservations which would require this, preferring to leave bedrooms unlet rather than compromise the comfort of our guests.
Broadgate makes the perfect base for touring the Western Lake District by foot, bicycle or car, taking in the pleasures of this beautiful area without the crowds. Sporting types can choose from a number of lovely golf courses, take a horseback trek along the coast and through the hills or enjoy the watersports on offer at Haverigg, among many other activities. To experience something rather different, visit the Cumbrian Heavy Horses just a mile or so down the valley.
