Self Catering in Dorset

Welcome to Bay Tree Cottage, Self Catering in Dorset. Bay Tree Cottage was formally the village shop for over 150 years and now offers self catering accommodation located in Chideock, Dorset. The holiday cottage adjoins Bay Tree House which is a bed and breakfast with a cream tea garden which is open between 2.00-5.00pm from Easter to end of September.

The self catering cottage offers ideal accommodation for a family with its cosy downstairs bedrooms (one with king size double bed, the other with two singles) and well appointed shower room. Upstairs is the large vaulted living room with comfortable sofas, TV, DVD and CD players and a fully equipped open plan kitchen/ dining room. The holiday cottage has dramatic views of Eype Down and Thorncombe Beacon. The holiday cottage is warm and cosy with under floor heating downstairs and an electric ‘wood burner’ in the living room, and double glazing. Rates are inclusive of gas/electricity and all linen/towels are provided, apart from beach towels.

There is a small but attractive enclosed garden with patio furniture and a designated parking space for one car in the car park. Access to the cottage is across Bay Tree Tea Garden.

Well behaved adult dogs are welcome (no puppies please!) at a supplement of £15 per booking. All our local pubs are dog friendly!

The small but well served village of Chideock has a shop, two pubs serving local beers and food, and of course a cream tea garden! There is a child’s play area and recreation ground nearby. The beautiful and dramatic coastal scenery at Seatown is only a short walk away where the Anchor pub overlooks the beach. Parking is available at either the pub or an adjacent car park.

In the village and surrounding area there are many good places to eat, fresh seafood being a speciality. The area is a walker`s paradise! If you are feeling energetic how about a walk up Golden Cap, the highest point on the whole of the south coast at 191 metres, with spectacular views in every direction. Slightly further afield to the east, just over two miles away, is Bridport. This little market town has retained the charms of a bygone era with lots of independent traders and shops providing a truly local service. Markets days are held on a Wednesday and a Saturday each week.

Just over three miles to the west is Charmouth, the centre of fossil country! There are plenty of other places of interest to explore by car. The bustling county town of Dorchester, the seaside resorts of Weymouth, Lyme Regis and the famous Chesil Beach are all nearby. Find the real places that inspired Thomas Hardy when writing his novels. Visit the many pre-historic forts, sights and numerous picturesque villages that are all over Dorset.
