Bed & Breakfast in Suffolk

Welcome to Avondale Guest House, Bed & Breakfast in Suffolk. Avondale Guest House is a Victorian terrace house built in 1894 situated on the sea front; we are within easy walking distance of town, pier and harbour.

Avondale is the oldest established guest house in Southwold. We have a lovely view of the sea, beach and Southwold pier. We have seven bedrooms, four of which have sea views with two back bedrooms and a ground floor bedroom.

Josephine Adams and Vincent Lamb ran a small restaurant in Southwold called Drifters Bistro for nearly 8 years before we took over Vincent’s parents Guesthouse, Avondale, which they in turn had run for 25 years which to our knowledge is the oldest established Guesthouse in Southwold.

We’d like to continue to offer our guests the same standards, care and attention which has made Avondale one of the most popular Guesthouses in Southwold.

Room 1
Is situated on the second floor. It has a wonderful sea view and a small balcony. It is a double or twin bedded room with en suite which consists of shower, toilet and wash hand basin.

Room 2
Is situated on the second floor next to Room 1 with a wonderful sea view. It is a double or twin bedded room with a shower and sink and it has its own bathroom just across the corridor with a toilet and a second shower.

Room 3
Is situated on the second floor opposite Room 1. It is a very quiet room with views to the rear of the house. The room has a double four – poster bed with en suite.

Room 4
Is situated on the first floor. It has lovely views of Southwold Pier and Sole Bay. This room has a small double bed with a shower and wash hand basin and a private toilet across the corridor. We can offer this room for single occupancy.

Room 5
Is situated next to Room 4 on the first floor. This room is our most popular as it has a large bay window with wonderful view of the sea and pier. This room has a pine double four – poster bed with en suite.

Room 6
Is situated next to Room 5 on the first floor. This is a large back room with a view of the rear of the house and is a very quiet room. It has a double four – poster bed and is en suite.

Room 7
This large room is situated on the ground floor. It can be double or twin bedded and has a bathroom and toilet.

Breakfast is served in our ground floor dining room which has wonderful view of the sea. Vincent has worked in the Southwold area for many years and ran Drifters Bistro with Jo for eight years.

During that time he sourced the best local suppliers and this is reflected in our delicious breakfasts. We have free range eggs from Sayers Farm, Henstead, bacon and sausages from probably one of the best butcher, John Groom at Bungay, and tomatoes and mushrooms from Wangford Farm Shop.

Our breakfasts are cooked on an Aga. We are happy to cater for vegetarians and any other dietary requirements.

The delightful seaside town of Southwold can justly claim to be an oasis of calm and charm in an increasingly stressful and volatile world. It lies at the centre of the Suffolk Heritage Coast, an area of outstanding natural beauty that is a paradise for the walker and the nature lover, but which also has plenty to offer to anyone looking for a memorable and fun-packed holiday away from the hustle and bustle of modern living.
