Bed & Breakfast in Weymouth

Welcome to The Kings Arms, Bed & Breakfast in Weymouth. The Kings Arms is an historic pub in an historic village. Portesham was first mentioned in a charter dating back to 1024 when King Canute granted Porteshamme land to one of his ministers. Admiral Hardy, as in “Kiss Me, Hardy”, of HMS Victory fame, lived in Portesham House, still standing opposite the pub. The Kings Arms itself has been a pub since at least 1900.

We have 3 rooms for you to choose from. Each of which can be used as a single, double, twin or family room, sleeping a maximum of 4 in each room. All the rooms are ensuite with comfortable beds, TVs and coffee & tea making facilities.

All the dishes at the Kings Arms Portesham are homemade using locally sourced fresh produce where possible and cooked to order. We serve a number of tasty vegetarian dishes and we are always available for special requests. Having just taken over the Kings Arms, I intend to continue to offer good food and maintain the great reputation for food the Kings Arms already has in the local area.

The Kings Arms is situated in the historic village of Portesham Dorset, directly opposite the home of Thomas Hardy, the mariner not the writer! Portesham is 7 miles from Weymouth, 9 miles from Dorchester and 12 miles from Bridport, on the main coast road from Weymouth to Bridport. We are surrounded by the rolling hills of Dorset and close to the World Heritage Jurassic Coast.

The village of Portesham is well worth a visit, as it is a typical picturesque Dorset village with many stone thatched cottages and it is steeped in history. The first record of the village appears to be in 1024 when King Canute grants land in Porteshamme to a man named Orc, one of his ministers.
