Bed & Breakfast in Ross-hire

Welcome to Pool House, Bed & Breakfast in Ross-hire.  Pool House is a spectacular Highland retreat on the shores of Loch Ewe, dating from the 18th century it is steeped in history and has a nautical theme throughout. The location provides stunning views of not only the Loch, but also where the river meets the sea. It is the perfect luxury B&B retreat and has attracted many celebrities. This luxury Wolsey Lodge in Poolewe, Ross-shire is lovingly run by two generations of the Harrison family.

The large suites at this exceptional Wolsey Lodge, each named after a WWII warship, comprise a large bedroom, en suite bathroom and sitting room. A balcony overlooking the sea and river, a rare glass canopied Edwardian bathing machine, a seven foot four poster bed or a real fire are just a few examples of what is offered at this luxury B&B.

Superb breakfasts and a set four course dinner (by arrangement) are served in the dining room which is situated only a few feet from the sea and enjoys spectacular views. Most ingredients come from within a 10 mile radius and include hand-dived scallops and crab from Loch Ewe and venison from the local estate.

Poolewe is located in the centre of Wester Ross. To the north lies Ullapool, the ferry terminal serving Stornoway in the Outer Hebrides and to the south, Kyle of Lochalsh and the Isle of Skye. Five hours drive from Edinburgh or Glasgow and only 90 minutes from Inverness. Plenty to do here with walking, fishing, sandy beaches, breath-taking sunsets, and seal spotting . Fabulous gardens (Inverewe and Attadale), museums and nature reserves.

Pool House’s association with the sea goes back a long way. During the Second World War it was the base for Lord Rowallan and the Highland Fieldcraft Training Centre who were stationed in Poolewe as well as being headquarters for the Royal Navy who co-ordinated their North Atlantic convoys from the house.

For this reason each of the suites have been named after a Naval vessel who during this time sailed and served in the chill waters of the North Atlantic. However, as you will see when you click on the name of each suites opposite, the interiors reflect more the potential destinations of these vessels conjuring up such ports of call as Bombay, Marseille and even Shanghai!
