The guest room is a quiet bedroom (either a twin or a double bed) with television, radio and tea & coffee-making facilities.

Petersfield is well placed as a sightseeing base. We are convenient for Jane Austen’s home at Chawton, where she wrote Pride and Prejudice and near Winchester, where she is buried. Winchester, ancient capital of Wessex, has its famous cathedral (where Mary Tudor married King Philip of Spain), college, castle and King Arthur’s Round Table. The Historic Ships and Dockyard at Portsmouth are a short journey by train or road and Chichester and Goodwood Race Course are also half an hour away. As well as excellent shopping and a lovely cathedral, Chichester has its famous Festival Theatre. National Trust properties such as Uppark and Hinton Ampner are near Petersfield with Petworth House within half an hour’s drive. The home of Gilbert White, naturalist is just up the road in the village of Selborne – a pretty and interesting place to visit. There is a market in Petersfield Square on Wednesdays and Saturdays plus a Farmers’ Market once a month.

For walkers and cyclists the South Downs Way is nearby as well as lots of shorter walks to include a pub lunch. The countryside around Petersfield – part of the new South Downs National Park – is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Channel is half an hour away with sea-side walks and sea-food restaurants. Ferries to the Isle of Wight leave from Portsmouth Harbour Railway Station.
