High Moor
The Dartmoor National Park covers 368 square miles, nearly half of which is
heather-covered open moorland punctuated with craggy granite tors. There are more archaeological sites than anywhere else in Europe, ranging from Bronze Age burial sites and stone circles to the remains of forts, ancient dwellings, mines and quarries.
Rivers & Valleys
The landscape of South and East Dartmoor is characterised by deep wooded gorges with rivers tumbling over rocks. The are numerous ancient bridges connecting the narrow lanes between the hamlets and villages.
Reservoirs
There are eight reservoirs on Dartmoor. As well as providing excellent fly fishing for brown and rainbow trout, they attract a variety of wildlife and have good walks in beautiful countryside.
Dartmoor Villages
Dartmoor has many picturesque villages and hamlets with old thatched cottages and ancient churches, surrounded by a patchwork of fields and woodland. Lustleigh, North Bovey, Chagford and Widecombe- in- the- Moor are fine examples.
