Self Catering in Shetland
Welcome to The Decca Self Catering,Self Catering in Shetland. The Decca Self Catering is located on the edge of Lerwick and was Shetland’s Radio Navigational Signal Station for 35 years until the early 1990’s. In 2002 we bought the Station, which Steve has personally renovated, in 2010 we completed our transformation project to create a perfect haven for the discerning visitor to Shetland.
The Decca Self Catering is enclosed by cream wooden fencing, giving seclusion to the 12 space car park and large garden which surrounds the building, with picnic tables and benches for those ‘Alfresco’ moments – yes even in Shetland.
The Decca Self Catering is perfect for country stillness and town facilities. Being on the edge of the town it is in a rural setting, but just five minutes drive away from the heart of town. A 30 minute walk and you are at our fantastic new museum, and on the way you will pass the Co-op supermarket, cafes and shops. Ideal if you are looking for a rural feel, with easy access to our local pubs and restaurants at night.

Skooty Allan:
This apartment was part of the original ground floor workshop area when The Decca was a Radio Navigational Signal station. We converted the ground floor flats in 2005, making clever use of the space, to provide individual apartments, each with its own entrance. The door opens into the open plan living area, which has wooden laminate flooring, in the seating area there are two Italian leather couches, television, DVD/VCR and Freeview. With rustic, solid wood dining table and chairs. There are plenty of Shetland Books, books, games etc.

In a world becoming increasingly concerned about how we treat our environment, you will be glad to know that The Decca has its own 15 kilowatt wind turbine supplying power to the eight apartments there. The ‘Tidy Business Standards’ Scheme were impressed too, and gave us a Gold Award in 2010. Now you can enjoy all the modern conveniences at The Decca, secure in the knowledge that they are operating in atruly eco-friendly manner.
Shetland where daylight lingers for up to 24 hours in the heart of the summer, and darkness lifts for around 6-7 hours in the heart of winter. Shetland, where we have been recorded as the ‘sunniest place in the UK’ during the past two summer periods! Or in the winter come and experience the most amazingly wild gales, when nature honours us with a display of her sheer raw power, and alternatively her spectacular displays of the ‘Aurora Borealis’.
Shetland provides a unique and diverse opportunity for naturalists and wildlife enthusiasts to watch and observe the bird life, otters and the odd pod of whales passing by! Our World Geo-Park status proves the diversity of geology and ‘geological history’ in Shetland. In Shetland, we have fantastic roads and public transport service, as well as brilliant facilities in the shape of our leisure centres and swimming pools, and playing parks for children scattered all over the island! There are boat trips to take you out to the isles and out of reach beauty spots, giving you the opportunity to see our islands from a sea viewpoint.
