A History of Delivering Value
The original Partnership was formed in 1946 by Fred Clarke, Cyril Nicholls, and Oliver Marcel, who ran offices in Bristol, Cheltenham, and London respectively.
Despite changes in ownership and legal structure, the London and Cheltenham businesses maintain a close working relationship, with both practices trading under the Clarke Nicholls Marcel name.
Since its inception, CNM has been involved in many landmark buildings in London and throughout the UK, ranging from the iconic LWT Studios on the South Bank to the imposing exhibition space at Earls Court II. Please click on the gallery to view a collection of projects from the CNM archives.
Values and Approach
‘Delivering value responsibly’
The practice’s shared values are shaped by the term ‘responsibility’.
‘At Clarke Nicholls Marcel, we believe that our business aims and objectives should be achieved in a way that has a long-term positive impact on the individuals we work with, the communities we operate in, and the environment we live in.’
In recognising these responsibilities, CNM is able to add value to client relationships built on ‘delivery, integrity, and trust’.
‘Delivering value through experience’
CNM differentiates itself by ensuring that the benefits of its collective experience are passed on to the client. This approach shapes the way in which projects are resourced and run, and the way in which CNM develops its people.
Director involvement and the utilisation of experienced Engineers form an essential part of project resourcing. Experienced, decision making Engineers reduce client risk and add value to the design process.
The strong platform of experience also enables CNM to make practical, informed choices about the use of new technology, construction methods, and new materials.
Delivering value at all stages
Clarke Nicholls Marcel provides a comprehensive range of civil and structural engineering services, delivered both individually and as integrated solutions.
CNM’s experienced team add value from the earliest stages, helping to minimise client risk through a range of pre-purchase and advisory services.
In addition to the core business of structural and civil design, CNM also provides a range of complementary services that include coordinated drainage design, infrastructure, geotechnics, and enabling works.
